Last month, I passed by Chachoengsao (ฉะเชิงเทรา) and couldn’t miss the main attraction in town, Wat Sothon (วัดโสธ).

The temple, dedicated to Luangpho Sothon, is in beautiful condition for a temple built originally over 300 years ago! What got my attention was the building next to the temple that was bustling with people! You’ve got a dozen of Buddha statues with worshippers sticking gold leaves on them.

The main offerings there are boiled eggs. Tons of boiled eggs boxes are stacked on top of each other which is an interesting and curious sight.

When you cross the street, you can find many vendors selling these boil eggs for worshippers! A few stands also are selling khanom jak (ขนมจาก), a sweet made with coconut and rice flour then wrapped in a leaf to be cooked over fire!

Chachoengsao is a great day-trip from Bangkok. To make the trip even better, consider visiting the Baan Mai Market and the impressive Wat Saman Rattanaram temple in the same day.
